Tonight is the longest night of the year!

I woke up late today. I didn’t fall asleep until 3 or 4 a.m. I had bad dreams.

Maybe I will have better dreams in the new year.

It was cold and brisk outside today. Last week’s snow is still on the ground.

We traveled all day. We went to see a Christmas show with M’s parents and had lunch afterward at a nearby restaurant. Then we went to a bookstore to buy a few gifts. We are traveling again on Saturday, but for now we are home and warm.

I remember the winter solstice as a child. We would light candles, lamps, and lanterns, fold paper stars, and play games together in the cozy darkness. My parents made the day a special one.

Childhood feels long ago. I am nostalgic. But in the years since then, I have been very lucky to celebrated the winter solstice with friends and family from around the world.
